William M. Hardy
William M. Hardy was a mid-twentieth-century novelist whose work ranged across naval fiction, suspense and crime. Drawing on his own wartime service, Hardy brought an unusually authentic understanding of military life, command and the psychological pressures of war to his fiction. His best-known naval novels include Wolfpack, A Time of Killing and U.S.S. Mudskipper, originally published during the 1960s.
Hardy’s submarine novels are distinguished not only by their convincing depictions of life aboard fighting boats, but by their interest in the men inside them — their courage, rivalries, fears and moral choices under extreme pressure. Now collected by Flagship Editions as The Pacific Submariners, these classic novels bring Hardy’s gripping portrayal of the Pacific War to a new generation of readers.
